Secret Garden near SE 35th and Hawthorne

This space is about 40×60 feet, enclosed in the middle of the block, so other than scheduled work parties the space is closed because access is through neighbors yard and we have agreed to not have heavy traffic through that space.

We are beginning work on the 35th and Hawthorne “Secret Garden”. Work parties are scheduled for every Sunday. Meet in front of Noah’s Bagel’s at S.E. 35th and Hawthorne at 11 am. We will walk to the garden promptly at 11:15.

What to bring? Your smiling faces! This is a great time to get involved and learn about springtime garden planning.

Access to the garden in only permitted during work party times, unless you have received permission from myself or Brian saying otherwise.
I can be contacted for suggestions or concerns at 503.358.9456.

Thanks, I hope to see you soon! – Skye Blue

Last weeks Trellis Building Workshop was a great success! We built
several awesome structures. Pictured is a side view and a close up of
the Tepee Trellis that we built for the vining squash plants. We also
build a trellis for the new raspberry plants, and for the peas plants.
All of the bamboo use was cut locally, and we used Biodegradable twine
to lash together the bamboo. Some fencing was used for the pea
trellis. This was donated by the Sunroots Gardens CSA. Thanks Farmer
    K!

We finished building the Tool Library. It has hooks inside for all of
the tools. On the outside right of it, there are hooks for hanging
personal bags, to keep them dry and out of the rain. All of the wood
used in the project was free boxed in Southeast Portland, as well as
many of the hooks. Thanks neighbors!

The fruit trees that were put in last spring are doing well. Pictured
are little baby leaves sprouting from the Italian Prune tree. Thanks
    Brian!

The garlic that was planted over winter is doing well. Also, the
perennial herbs are growing great! We have: Motherwort, Lovage,
Chives, Sage, Sorel, Thyme, and Rainbow Collards. (all pictured)

Stay tuned for more growing news!
